Business Restructuring and Reorganization Global Finance Public Policy

BIOGRAPHY

Alex Xiao is an associate in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher where he currently practices with the firm’s Business Restructuring and Reorganization Practice Group.  Mr. Xiao’s practice focuses on restructuring, bankruptcy, and insolvency matters, including debt exchanges, distressed investments, acquisitions and financings and other in‐court and out‐of-court transactions and arrangements.

Mr. Xiao has played a role on a number of teams advising:

  • An ad hoc group of secured lenders in the chapter 11 proceedings of Serta Simmons Bedding, one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of mattresses in North America
  • An ad hoc group of secured lenders in the chapter 11 proceedings of Endo International PLC, a multi-billion dollar global specialty biopharmaceutical business
  • An ad hoc group of secured lenders in the out-of-court restructuring of Envision Healthcare Corporation, a leading provider of physician staffing services and operator of ambulatory surgical centers
  • An ad hoc group of secured lenders in the prepackaged chapter 11 cases of Lumileds, a Dutch-based global leader in innovative lighting solutions
  • An ad hoc group of secured lenders in the chapter 11 proceedings of Phoenix Services, a provider of steel mill services to leading, global steel producing companies in the U.S. and abroad
  • An ad hoc group of secured lenders in the out-of-court restructuring of Service King, the third largest operator of auto body collision repair facilities in the U.S.
  • Brooks Brothers, the oldest apparel company in the United States, in its chapter 11 cases, Canadian proceeding under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, and going-concern sale of their international businesses*
  • National Public Finance Guarantee Corporation, in connection with the Title III cases of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and certain of its instrumentalities*

Mr. Xiao received his B.A. magna cum laude  from Brandeis University and received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law.  During law school, Mr. Xiao served as a policy fellow at the Office of the Majority Whip of the United States House of Representatives and as a judicial intern to the Honorable Judge Steven Tiscione of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Prior to joining Gibson Dunn, Mr. Xiao was an associate in the Restructuring Department of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP in New York.

Mr. Xiao is admitted to practice in the State of New York.
