Christine Demana is a partner in the Dallas office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department, as well as the Trade Secrets Practice Group; the Media, Entertainment, and Technology Practice Group; and the Intellectual Property Practice Group.

Ms. Demana has deep trial-court experience in the technology industry and in litigating and counseling clients on high-stakes bet-the-company and trade secrets matters.  Ms. Demana also has represented a number of Fortune 500 companies in prosecuting and defending business claims, including breach of contract, securities and other frauds, consumer product defects, antitrust violations, and employment issues, and she has successfully defended several of these companies in large class-action litigations. She plays a substantial role in these matters through all aspects of investigation, pre-trial litigation, trial, and appeal in courts throughout the country.

Ms. Demana practice focuses on framing cases—she has a unique ability to extract key facts from complex cases to craft a winning case strategy, and then translate that strategy into compelling oral arguments, briefs, key depositions, and presentations at trial.  She also has expertise developing a media strategy for large public matters.  Ms. Demana has been repeatedly recognized by The Best Lawyers in America© as a “One to Watch” in Commercial Litigation and as a Super Lawyers Rising Star.

Representative Technology & Trade Secrets Experience

• Filed suit on behalf of a group of Tinder cofounders, early executives, and employees in multibillion-dollar litigation against InterActiveCorp (IAC) and Match Group, Inc., Tinder’s parent companies; Gibson Dunn achieved $441 million settlement after a nearly four-week jury trial.
• Currently representing industry-leading technology company in novel biometrics litigation brought by the State of Texas under the Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act (“CUBI”).
• After winning partial motion to exclude opposing party’s key expert witness, achieved settlement for Square, Inc. and cofounders Jack Dorsey and James McKelvey, Jr. in bet-the-company founders’ and trade secret dispute.
• After key depositions, achieved settlement for Machine Zone, Inc. (MZ) in multi-faceted contract, fraud, and trade secrets dispute with data hosting provider.
• Secured temporary restraining order and injunction pending arbitration for Capchase Inc. in noncompete and trade secrets dispute with former employee.
• After key depositions, achieved settlement for Perella Weinberg Partners, LP in trade secrets dispute with competitor.
• Currently representing One Call Medical, Inc. in class and other actions in California alleging One Call has misclassified transportation providers as independent contractors.
• Counseled multiple firms and companies on developing trade secrets policies, including developing nonlawyer trainings.
• Conducted multiple, comprehensive confidential investigations for large firms and public companies in trade secrets and restrictive covenant matters.
• Core member of trial team for industry-leading media and technology company in prominent federal antitrust trial.

Representative General Commercial Litigation Experience

• Secured rare voluntary dismissal from plaintiffs in two putative products liability class-actions against Trinity Industries after pursuing aggressive discovery and litigation strategy.
• Member of team that successfully defeated class certification at trial and on appeal for antitrust claims against Class 1 railroads, then achieved nearly unprecedented multi-district litigation (“MDL”) order creating separate MDL for more than 45 newly filed actions.
• Achieved favorable settlement for energy investment company in multimillion-dollar asset purchase dispute with competitor on the eve of summary judgment hearing.
• After winning motion to dismiss in trial court, achieved favorable resolution for Arcosa, Inc. in indemnification dispute with competitor.
• After winning dismissal of numerous claims, achieved settlement for Perella Weinberg Partners, LP and global entertainment company in joint venture dispute.
• Secured summary judgement for AlixPartners precluding former employee from pursuing class claims in arbitration, and successfully defended that ruling on appeal in the Sixth Circuit.
• Successfully defended complete trial-court dismissal on appeal in the Fifth Circuit in case challenging Delta Air Lines’ cargo ban on African big-game hunting trophies.
• Achieved favorable settlement of high-profile securities class action for major public retailer.
• Represented Conduent in multibillion-dollar Texas Medicaid Fraud Prevention Act case brought by the State of Texas.

In addition to Ms. Demana’s commercial litigation docket, she proudly maintains an active pro bono practice serving individual clients in need. In each of 2014 and 2015, the New York Legal Aid Society awarded her its outstanding service award for her work on behalf of New Yorkers with disabilities challenging the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. She also has represented individual clients charged with federal crimes in both in trial court and on direct appeal—including delivering oral arguments before the Seventh Circuit and serving as one of three lead trial counsel in a Section 1983 case on behalf of a former inmate.

Ms. Demana also is a member of the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Innovation Taskforce, which supports the launch and growth of innovation activities in the Dallas area by connecting entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, and the business community.

Prior to joining Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, Ms. Demana served as a law clerk to the Honorable David C. Godbey of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. She received her Juris Doctor in 2011 from Harvard Law School, where she was both a student attorney and the Vice President for Practice Standards at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, and she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with High Distinction in Organizational Studies and Communication Studies from the University of Michigan. Before attending law school, Ms. Demana was an account executive with a multinational advertising agency in Chicago.
